KSSA Mission

To educate & share knowledge about the internationally acclaimed Kodály concept of music education, which can be used in music education, instrumental lessons, class music and choirs around the country.

It’s our mission to provide world-class Kodály courses, regular Kodály discussions, networking opportunities, lesson materials, and a platform for parents and schools to locate Kodály teachers throughout the country.

    Teacher workshop: Kodály based approach to Curriculum Design – an introduction

    Join us for a workshop on Kodály based approach to Curriculum Design presented by Kodály specialists, Zelda Martin and Ruan Fourie.

    The workshop will cover:

    • CAPS and the Kodály methodology
      • International standard skillsets for Grade 0-3
    • The structure of Kodály curriculum design
      • Curriculum outline
      • Scope and sequence
      • Concept plans
    • Kodály lesson planning
      • Components of a lesson plan
      • Prepare, present, practice
      • Lesson fluency
    • Assessment in the Kodály setting

     

    Zelda has 10 years experience in Kodály-based teaching in school setting. She is the head of Colourstrings SA – a Kindergarten program based on the Kodály approach. She has presented numerous Colourstrings courses and is a leader in uplifting music education in South Africa.

    Ruan is a former Director of Music and Foundation Phase class Music teacher at a well-known private school in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg. He developed, wrote and implemented a Kodaly-based Curriculum for Grade 0-3 to great success and positive results. He currently teaches Grade 3, but has a passion for assisting with curriculum development for a Kodaly based class Music setting
